Clash Of The Colts

The season has fast approached us and many Colts supporters have penned in the Round 4 inter club fixture between Coffs Colts Red & Black. Colts are very proud to have three sides in the nine team 3rd Grade competition, with the Club in association with the players honourably choosing to promote last years 4th Grade premiers to become the third Colts White side.

So rare are these inter club games, the Colts will proudly host a mini triangular series within the sides, playing each other quite a bit this year.

Event Manager Susan McKee was lucky enough to catch up with ‘Black’ captain Wade Erenshaw at the Friday night raffles, who didn’t want to get too ahead of himself. There is a weekend of cricket to play this week but Wade felt that the match on turf will put them in good stead for the game.

Club Coach and former NSW Country star Terry Baldwin, was happy with last weeks top scorer Grant Nicholas and we hope that Grant has an exciting first year with the Club. 16 year old Cameron Martin is another hard trainer and exciting prospect this season with the ball in hand. Other than that the team boasts a solid side that narrowly missed the finals last year.

Similarly, ‘Red’ captain coach Tony Slaviero, didn’t think his side would be overoared in the No2 Leisure Park Oval clash in a fortnights time with his young squad.

Talking with 1st Grader Matt Rose, Slaviero was happy with their first round win, notably with his young chargers of the under 16 duo of James Britnall scoring 77 followed up by debutant Lawson Tinmouth picking up 3-28 in a handy win for young and up and coming Colts ‘Red” team.

Regardless, we are expecting a close game and Matt Rose said that it will be a breath of fresh for the 1st Grade side to be playing alongside on such good wickets. He said that the Colts boast enormous junior talent this year and will be keen to keep update on the match is it transpires. Also he felt that these young 3rd graders can see in the first grade game what is ahead of these young Colts in the level of cricket being played as the Club takes very seriously the opportunity for the youth of our Club mixing it in the top two grades.

A BBQ will follow the completion of the game, for all welcome to attend.
